Tours per country Australia, a continent of birds

Australia, the island continent, has been cut off from the rest of the world for more than sixty million years and as a result has evolved a remarkable and unique flora and fauna. Here we may see such remarkable creatures as kangaroos, wallabies, possums and the strange Platypus.

The birdlife has also followed its own evolutionary path. Australia has more endemic bird species than any other country and many families which are endemic or virtually endemic to Australasia and will appear in the tour including emus, cassowaries, megapodes, owlet-nightjars, lyrebirds, fairywrens, Australasian warblers, sitellas, pardalotes, butcherbirds, birds of paradise...

Our journey starts in Darwin, in the North of the continent, and ends in Sydney. During the tour we will explore a complete variety of Australian landscapes, from rainforests in Northern Queensland to extreme dry countryside. We will birding all along the Eastern coast of the country, producing a wonderful list of about 450 to 500 species. Special mention required for our offshore North of Sydney to enjoy different species of Albatrosses and Shearwaters.

For those excited about having a complete view on the birdlife of the island-continent we propose two extensions. First extension to explore Tasmania, where we will look for all endemics of this island along with interesting mammals, with special efforts to have good views on Tasmanian Devils. A second extension will bring us around Melbournem where we will mainly explore the dry countryside around Deniliquin. Here we will look for some must-see birds such Superb Lyrebird, Powerful Owl and the endemic Plains Wandered amongst many other.

Please pin on bars below to see the complete planning of the tour and extensions.

Hooded Parrot (Psephotus dissimilis) Southern Cassowary (Casuarius casuarius)
